New Opportunity: Book Reviews Editor

02 Feb 2024

Diaspora – A Journal of Transnational Studies seeks to appoint a new book reviews editor. This is an exciting  opportunity to become involved with a journal which  has contributed to the establishment of diaspora studies as a dynamic and interdisciplinary focus of study, and shaped transnational perspectives in the humanities and social sciences. We publish articles that address displacement, refugees, mobility, migration, diasporisation and transnationalism across geographical contexts and disciplines. By doing so, we endeavour to explore, interrogate, and innovate the intersections of home and homeland, community formation and diasporic consciousness, statehood and stateless power, nationalisms and the politics of identity and belonging. We believe that book reviews are a critical element of the journal and provide a vital contribution to the academic community. We are looking for an editor who is committed to developing a diverse and inclusive review section and will actively seek to engage with the work of underrepresented groups, in line with the ethos and scope of the journal. Our longer-term vision is to expand our review section beyond academic monographs, and provide a space for critical perspectives on film, exhibitions or other cultural artefacts related to the themes of the journal.

The role of the book review editor entails:

·       Keeping on top of the latest publications that pertain to the journal’s themes and concerns

·       Choosing books for review

·       Liaising with publishers to secure books for review

·       Commissioning reviews from prospective reviewers

·       Editing reviews and providing feedback to reviewers

·       Liaising with the journal regarding production/publication

·       Working with the journal editors to shape the strategic direction of the review section and the journal

To apply for this position please send your academic CV, and a 500 word statement addressing why you would like to be book reviews editor for the journal and what experience you would bring to the journal, and a sample of your academic writing to zoryan@zoryaninstitute.org by 1st March 2024.

The minimum term for this contract is 2 years with the option to extend. The ideal start time for this position would be April 2024.
