May 21st, 2025 TORONTO: As defined by UNESCO, the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development “celebrates not only the richness of the world’s cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development.”

To mark the occasion, the Zoryan Institute has added a new educational video to its suite of educational resources available on its website, addressing the critical issue of reparative justice. This video is intended as a foundational tool for educators and students alike to consider how societies move forward from historical injustice, and how justice can be meaningfully pursued for victimized groups of people as explained by Genocide Studies International co-editor and GHRUP faculty member, Dr. Henry Theriault.

Over the years, ZI has made available a vast collection of online educational resources for both teachers and students to access worldwide. These include downloadable lesson plans, guided instructional materials, and short video clips to help educators introduce difficult subjects in the classroom. Our growing library of educational media offers accessible entry points into the study of genocide, an area the Institute believes is crucial to introduce at a young age, as it fosters not only critical thinking but also empathy which is central to the study of these issues.

In recognition of this day, the Zoryan Institute is reaffirming its commitment to fostering equity, reconciliation, and cross-cultural understanding through education.
