The 2026 GHRUP Faculty Lineup: The Zoryan Institute Announces Scholars for Its Genocide and Human Rights Program

06 Jan 2026

TORONTO, ON, January 6, 2025 — The International Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (IIGHRS), a Division of the Zoryan Institute, is proud to announce the distinguished faculty for the 2026 Genocide and Human Rights University Program (GHRUP), taking place from July 27 to August 8, 2026, at the University of Toronto.  Registration is now open through the IIGHRS website until February 14, 2026. Due to limited space, early registration is encouraged.

Now in its 24th year, the GHRUP has become a leading destination in Canada for graduate-level human rights studies, offering a rigorous, comparative, and interdisciplinary approach to understanding genocide. The program features over 14 faculty members who are recognized specialists across multiple fields, welcoming students from all academic disciplines.

The educational experience is enriched not only by the expertise of the faculty but also by the collaborative exchange of ideas among graduate and PhD students, who take these insights with them both academically and personally. Over the years, GHRUP faculty have had a lasting impact on participants, many of whom continue to benefit from their mentorship long after the program. In addition, graduates gain access to an exceptional network of more than 500 alumni across 73 countries of whom have become distinguished policy-makers, diplomats, activists, and scholars.

Ali Avery, 2022 GHRUP graduate and PhD Candidate in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at The Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Clark University, had the following to share:

“The professional network I built during my time at GHRUP has greatly impacted my academic and career goals. Several GHRUP faculty members have offered invaluable support and mentorship in the development of my doctoral dissertation, as well as editing fellowship and job applications.”
