December 18, 2025: As the international community marks International Migrants Day to recognize the rights and lived realities of migrants and displaced peoples worldwide, the Institute is pleased to share the release of its newest piece on Scholar’s Corner: “In the Ashes of Artsakh and Gaza: Global Authoritarianism’s Chill on the Media,” by human rights journalist Mischa Geracoulis.
Geracoulis’s article examines how media framing and decontextualized stories have shaped global perceptions of the destruction of Armenian and Palestinian cultural heritage from 2023 to 2024. Drawing from her forthcoming Routledge volume, Media Framing and the Destruction of Cultural Heritage, her blog article argues that reductive and politically influenced reporting contributes to international inaction by obscuring human rights violations and undermining the public’s ability to form informed responses to crises.
The views expressed in this article are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Institute.
