December 7, 2022: The Zoryan Institute is pleased to announce that it will be featured in the Global Heroes section of three of Canada’s largest daily newspapers this week, for its ongoing dedication to genocide education. We encourage our constituents to pick up the December 9th, 2022 issue of the Toronto Star, and the December 10th, 2022 issues of the Globe and Mail and the National Post to read the full piece! Global Heroes is North America’s premier positive news magazine. It aims to connect its readers to uplifting stories and highlight the inspirational efforts of everyday people and organizations, who are diligently working together towards practical solutions to global problems.

The Institute is pleased to have its work featured in this week’s edition of Global Heroes, as the world celebrates the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime, which marks the anniversary of the signing of the 1948 Genocide Convention, and Human Rights Day, marking the anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. On these occasions, as individuals and organizations around the globe reaffirm their commitments to protecting human rights, and the words “never again” when it comes to genocide, we must remember the central role genocide and human rights education plays in building engaged global citizens and preventing future atrocities.

The featured piece highlights Zoryan Institute’s delivery of education programs and scholarly activities promoting equity, inclusion, anti-hate, non-discrimination, and social justice. The Institute’s high school programming, teacher training, Genocide and Human Rights University Program (GHRUP), and globally recognized academic journals, Diaspora: A Journal of Transnational Studies and Genocide Studies International (GSI), are just some of the Institute’s initiatives aiming to raise awareness about genocide and other gross violations of human rights and build a global community of informed citizens dedicated to promoting respect for diversity, dignity, and human rights. The article can be found in the December 9th, 2022 issue of the Toronto Star, and the December 10th, 2022 issues of the Globe and Mail and the National Post. The piece is also featured on the Global Heroes website under the “Human Rights” section.
