The Zoryan Institute and the American University of Armenia (AUA) are pleased to announce a co-sponsored upcoming conference entitled, “Armenia’s Transformation in a Comparative Context: Restarting Democratization?”.

This two-day conference, to be held on November 14-15th, will bring together social scientists from Armenia and abroad to discuss various aspects of the “Velvet Revolution” and its aftermath, a year and half after the dramatic events. The goal is to critically reflect on the social, political, and economic forces and factors that are shaping Armenian developments.

The 2018 Armenian “Velvet Revolution” aspired to fundamentally transform Armenian society and the political landscape of the country. In this conference, the Zoryan Institute and AUA seek to evaluate Armenia’s achievements and challenges since the Revolution and its ongoing pursuit of democracy and social change. Moreover, the conference will aim to measure this progress in comparison with other countries that have experienced similar mass anti-government protests. It will analyze the successful or failed attempts at similar social and political transformations in other countries in order to place Armenia within a larger regional context.

To ensure that this conference is as inclusive and academically diverse as possible, the co-sponsors would like to invite scholars and specialists with expertise in political science and international relations, economics, media studies, sociology, history, anthropology, legal studies, and other overlapping disciplines to contribute.

Please submit a 300-500 word abstract to psiaconference2019@aua.am and/or to zoryan@zoryaninstitute.org by April 28th, 2019. This abstract should include:
