The Zoryan Institute Announces New Travelling Exhibit in Partnership with AGMI
March 8, 2025, TORONTO: March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a global celebration of the achievements, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women in all spheres of life. It is a day to honor women’s strength, recognize their struggles, and reaffirm our collective commitment to gender equality.
The Zoryan Institute deeply values the recognition of women and their contributions on this day. Beyond expressions of gratitude and appreciation, we must also take this opportunity to reflect on the experiences of women who have endured the horrors of genocide, and their important role in shaping societies before and after conflict. The experiences of women offer profound lessons—not only on survival, but on perseverance, leadership, and the rebuilding of nations after immense tragedy.
In collaboration with the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (AGMI), the Zoryan Institute is proud to announce the upcoming traveling exhibit titled, “Women and Genocide: From Persecution to Empowerment.” This powerful exhibit will explore the universal impact of genocide, the gendered dimensions of such atrocities, and the pivotal role women have played in post-genocide recovery and nation-building.
By featuring firsthand accounts and historical documentation from survivors of three different genocides, the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, and the Rwandan Genocide, this exhibit will underscore a crucial truth: genocide is a global tragedy, and the experiences of women—whether in Armenia, Europe, or Africa—share striking similarities. Stories of endurance, courage, and unity serve as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the necessity of remembrance and education in preventing future atrocities.
On this International Women’s Day, the Zoryan Institute aims to highlight the struggles and achievements of women, foster awareness of gender-based violence, and ensure that the voices of women are heard, in hopes to contribute to a more just, peaceful, and equitable world.
This traveling exhibition will be showcased in cities across the globe, organized by the Zoryan Institute of Canada, in collaboration with AGMI, the Zoryan Institute of Armenia, and local partners. The Zoryan Institute invites individuals, institutions, and organizations to support this initiative, helping to bring these important stories to audiences worldwide.
