With some 40 million people scattered across the globe, the South Asian diaspora is one of the largest diaspora communities in the world. Histories of migration go back centuries before the borders of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka were drawn, defining the nation-states we know today. The South Asian Diasporas: Tracing Multilayered Subjectivities offers a rich and dynamic lens into what it means to study migration, diaspora, and transnationalism. As the South Asian diaspora continues to evolve, so too do the forms of identity and community, some of which build off each other, and others that contest, challenge, and interact in unexpected ways. This volume seeks to understand the contours of the field of South Asian diaspora studies, bringing together a collection of articles by diverse authors. In finding connections between the different approaches, this volume will help to frame a more detailed picture of the dynamics of the South Asian diaspora and hint to the future trajectories this field may take.
